Lyre Calliope 🧭✨

🌐 Working at the intersection of movements, media, and the social web to expand collective agency 🛠️ Seeking collaborations to reshape systems that concentrate power and shape how we live 🧭 Justice-rooted, with field notes and wayfinding at SpaceCadets.love

Attempting to Bounce bounce.anew.social my Mastodon fediverse account @captaincalliope.indieweb.social.ap.brid.gy to a new pds and if successful I'm going to remap @spacecadets.love to that new atproto account. Fortunately I don't have many followers yet, but need to upgrade my site to full atproto.
I really want to make a standalone tool for making artist portfolios, just so I can cater to the particular needs of my friends/peers, but I absolutely want to interoperate with all related lexicons and tools. So I've been thinking it out and would love people's feedback! 🧵

Bluesky is now integrating @standard.site link cards. When you share your Offprint articles on Bluesky, they show up as enhanced previews with your publication name, icon, and reading time. We wrote about what this means and how it works.

It's official, @standard.site & @leaflet.pub are integrated on Bluesky! Look how nice your posts look!

This is great news for folks publishing on Leaflet! It's *also* just a starting point; Bluesky has more planned & we do too.

Here's a lil thread on why we're excited about the potential here!

we’re rolling out the first phase of the Bluesky + standard.site integration today!

now, when you share an article from writing platforms that support
standard.site (like @leaflet.pub, @pckt.blog, @offprint.app), you’ll notice the link card has more to it than a typical link card.
Bluesky @bsky.app
v1.122 is rolling out today, featuring a better way to discover and share articles, blog posts and newsletters across the Atmosphere via new, dynamic Standard.site link cards. 🧵
The Bluesky and Standard.site logos sharing an emoji handshake above examples of the new, dynamic link cards.
Big Tech social media isn't really social anymore. We scroll more than we post, and we consume content more than we connect with others.

Research from
@zephoria.bsky.social suggests we should call it what it really is: parasocial media.

journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/...
Social media stopped being primarily about connecting socially a long time ago. People still use a range of technologies to connect to friends and build relationships, but we don’t call those technologies – like texting and group chats – “social media.” Media shared on platforms may support social connections by creating a common culture, just as media shared via TV or magazines did historically (Meyrowitz, 1986). But that is not the same as creating a digital space for sociality.
It is easy to look back and argue that we were naïve, but I don’t think that is fair. It was not inevitable that social media platforms would become the dumpster fire that they did become. But I do think that we made a mistake when we collectively agreed to call this phenomenon “social media.” That linguistic frame biased how we normatively interpreted the practices on these platforms.
Welcome to the new Aturi... a suite of tools for touring the Atmosphere & exploring the AT Protocol.

1. Explorer — Inspect the data inside every account

2. Extension — Switch apps in 1 click (or zero), detect URIs, inspect data

3. Universal Links — Share content, let them pick a client

the implication is that you also cannot build healthier social media by copying design choices that we know now consistently incentivize people to do this
Anuj Ahooja @quillmatiq.com
You will not change someone's (especially a stranger's) mind by:

1. being rude

2. if you haven't understood the root of why they believe something

3. if you're quoting each other back and forth on a website that limits you to 300 characters per post
I've been gesturing towards the idea that:
1. Groups can be smarter than individuals
2. Proven in other fields and species
3. Social protocols + sensemaking make it buildable

I'm trying to gather papers, books, etc that lend precedent or otherwise support the idea

"we now must reimagine our existing institutions and create new collaborative structures...Our information and media ecosystems must shift from attention-fracking to collective sensemaking. We need media architectures that support deep understanding and dialogue rather than polarized echo chambers."

Sublime essay by Otto Scharmer - a "drop everything and read" moment for me

“More than $2.5T is projected to flow into AI in 2026 alone, yet the human side ... — the cultivation of sensing, relating and sensemaking — receives almost none of it. This is soil depletion at a civilizational scale.”

In "Reckoning with the Political Economy of AI," @cyberlyra.bsky.social, Ben Shestakofsky, Alex Taylor, and I are particularly keen to understand how the project of AI involves numerous "decoys" that misdirect critics' attention, undermining efforts to hold AI to account. arxiv.org/abs/2604.16106
It's weird to read the pope's msg cuz it echos my upcoming co-authored FAccT paper. "Reckoning with the Political Economy of AI" argues that political & economic maneuvering of those invested in the project of AI must be analyzed separately from the technical workings of AI. lnkd.in/eFgthayX
